Stephen Bridge, 35, pleaded guilty earlier this year after he sold a Xanax derivative to his best friend and served as the middleman for the friend to get fentanyl. The friend, 33, was found unresponsive by his father on Jan. 6, 2021, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Bridge’s arrest warrant affidavit.
Bridge was sentenced in state Superior Court in Stamford Wednesday morning to 15 years in prison, suspended after seven years and a day served, followed by five years of probation.
Hudock also imposed some special conditions for Bridge’s probation, including substance abuse and mental health treatment, and for him to seek and maintain full-time employment.
Bridge expressed his remorse through his lawyer, Mark F. Katz, on Wednesday, and though Hudock said he understood, he underscored to Bridge that “Someone died on your watch.” He said he wasn’t sure how Bridge would deal with that, suggesting maybe Bridge help others, but said, “Ultimately, it’s between you and your maker.”
